October 14, 2018: SOAP #3237: Nehemiah 11-12; Psalm 1; Acts 3
Scripture: Psalm (NIV) 1:1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. 2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. 3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
Observation: What makes the difference between the righteous and the wicked? Are they smarter? Are they more talented? Do they have greater resources? No! Verse 6 above says the LORD watches over the way of the righteous. They have the favor of the Lord.
Application: It is good to have the favor of man. It can be a source of blessing. But there is nothing like the favor of God! God’s favor brings joy as He smiles on us. It brings peace in forgiveness. But unlike man’s favor, God’s favor continues into eternity. The grave does not stop God’s favor. Only on the other side of the grave will we truly understand the great value of God’s favor.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me today to recognize the many expressions of my Heavenly Father’s favor that will come my way. Amen
